Etymology
[edit]From Middle High German quecsilber (also kecsilber), from Old High German quecsilbar. Compare Dutch kwikzilver, Low German Quicksülver, English quicksilver. In this word survives the Central German form with qu-, otherwise displaced by keck (see there).
