[edit]First attested as Quatrebras sometime after 1864. Derived from French quatre bras (“crossroads”). Originally the name of an inn, which was named as a double reference to its location at a crossroads as well as to Les Quatre Bras near Genappe in Belgium, where William II of Orange repulsed a French attack the day before the Battle of Waterloo on June 16 1815.
