Etymology

Borrowed from Latin psōra f (itch), itself borrowed from Ancient Greek ψώρᾱ f (psṓrā, itch; disease of trees; scab). Both the Latin and Ancient Greek terms also mean 'scabies', this could be related to the scattered pattern both scabies and this genus of lichen follow or appear as.
