Etymology

Attested as Prosperdorp in 1936. Compound of Prosper (a personal name) and dorp (village, settlement). The settlement was named for its location in the Prosperpolder, which was named in turn after its primary investor, Duke Prosper Lodewijk van Arenberg (1785-1861).
