English
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From porn (“pornography”) + 3.0 (“a third major version of something”), one above Porn 2.0 (“the generation of pornographic websites on the Internet hosting user-generated (amateur) content”); coined by analogy with Web 3.0 (“the predicted third generation of the World Wide Web”).
Proper noun
[edit]Porn 3.0
- (Internet, slang, rare) The hypothetical third generation of pornographic websites on the World Wide Web, often predicted to incorporate artificial intelligence, virtual reality, the metaverse and other physically immersive future technologies.
- 2012 August 13, Karsten Strauss, “Crowdfunding Porno-style”, in Forbes[1]:
- Porn 3.0? Sounds simple enough […] might the next branch in this sultry business evolution come from small companies funded by other porn enthusiasts? If so, what will it look like? Will it take the form of highly advanced sensory technology, surround sound audio or greater use of face-to-face video technology (though the latter possibility is not exactly state of the art)?
- 2013 October 7, Matthieu Foucher, Gizem Ezgi Akdag, “Porn 3.0”, in Masters of Media[2], University of Amsterdam:
- This Kickstarter for porn allows users to "find, support and create" projects for "fetish communities" and, therefore, sexual minorities. What some already refer as "Crowdsexing" or "Porn 3.0" might be the next level for post-pornography.
- 2024, Fiona Vera-Gray, “Future”, in Women On Porn: One Hundred Stories. One Vital Conversation, Penguin Random House, →ISBN, page 1 (of chapter):
- Porn 2.0 was all about user-participation, ease of access and an endless stream of content. These days we're too used to that; we need something more. Enter Porn 3.0. Now, you're no longer watching porn, you're in the porn. This is the metaverse. It's hard for me to write anything here that'll stand the test of time.
