[edit]Etymology
[edit]Named by Carl Linnaeus in the 5th edition of the Genera Plantarum, of unknown further origin. Perhaps named after a character of the same name found in poems written by Ovid, though this is unconfirmed because Linnaeus makes no mention of how he derived the name.[1]
