[edit]Compound of perang (“war”) + salib (“cross, crucifix”), literally “crucifix war(s)”, from Malay Perang Salib, most likely Calque of Arabic حَمْلَة صَلِيبِيَّة (ḥamla(t) ṣalībiyya, “Crusade”).
