[edit]Probably from Latin patagīum (“gold edging or border”) + -ēnās (declined feminine form of -īnus); coined by German botanist and ornithologist Heinrich Gottlieb Ludwig Reichenbach in 1852, probably in reference to the appearance of the collar feathers.[1]
