From Late Latin Palatiolum, from palatium (a palace; large residence) +‎ -olum (diminutive suffix). By surface analysis, palazzu +‎ -olu. Possibly related and/or inherited from a gallo-norman stratum. Cognate with Italian Palazzolo.
