  • (Noord-Holland) Attested as Duycker Sluys around 1660. Compound of oud (old) and sluis (lock, sluice). The element oud was added to distinguish the settlement from Nieuwesluis.
  • (Zuid-Holland) Compound of oud (old) and sluis (lock, sluice).
