[edit]First attested as hoerne cum duabus capellis in 1315. Calque of West Frisian Aldhoarne, derived from a compound of Old Frisian ald (“old”) and hern (“corner of a levee”). The element âld was added to distinguish the settlement from Nieuwehorne.
