[edit]Latin ōtium n (“leisure; free time”) + Ancient Greek ῥῠ́γχος n (rhúnkhos, “nose”). Despite the root word ῥῠ́γχος (rhúnkhos) being a neuter noun, it resembles Latin -us, and so has taken the masculine grammatical gender.
