Latin ōtium n (leisure; free time) +‎ Ancient Greek ῥῠ́γχος n (rhúnkhos, nose). Despite the root word ῥῠ́γχος (rhúnkhos) being a neuter noun, it resembles Latin -us, and so has taken the masculine grammatical gender.
