  • (Noord-Holland) First attested as oestenwoude in 1312. Compound of Middle Dutch oost (east-, eastern) and wout (marsh forest, swamp forest). The settlement is located to the east of Midwoud and Nibbixwoud.
  • (Friesland) Attested as Oestwoldt in 1543. Calque of West Frisian Eastwâld, a compound of east (east-, eastern) and wâld (marsh forest, swamp forest).
