[edit]First attested as te ockenberghe in 1280-1287. Compound of Middle Dutch Okke (“a personal name”) or oke (“place where crops have been planted”) and berch (“hill, elevated place”). The second element was gradually reinterpreted to burg (“fortified settlement, castle”).
