- As a Czech and Slovak surname, from Novosad in Slovakia, from nový (“new”) + sad (“plant”).
- As a Ukrainian and Belarusian surname, from multiple places called Novosady, identical to the above.
Also Americanized from the Jewish adaptation of the above, Novosadski (mainly found in Poland, after the placename Nowosady).
