Usage notes

[edit]
  • In grammar, describes the relationship of different grammatical tenses in main and subordinate clauses, in which the action of the subordinate clause takes place after that of the main clause. For instance, in the sentence "Bevor der Arzt einen Patienten untersucht, desinfiziert er seine Hände." ("Before the doctor examines a patient, he disinfects his hands."), the word bevor is used to create the post-timeliness: The subordinate clause ("the doctor examines a patient") takes place after that of the main clause ("he disinfects his hands").
