[edit]First attested as molkenhuzen in 1398. Likely derived from a compound of Old Frisian Molke (“a personal name”) and weer (“plot of land, landed property”) or werve (“artificial mound used for habitation”). The Dutch form of the toponym was borrowed from an older variant of the Frisian name.
