Philippine Hokkien

[edit]

@Mlgc1998 I was just wondering where you based adding 虼蚤 and 狗蝨 into Philippine Hokkien here. Thanks! Mar vin kaiser (talk) 08:40, 7 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Mar vin kaiser can't remember exactly, but either from asking my parents or it was discussed in the fb groupchats or both if the latter lead to the former. What I remember hearing of before in my family is 狗蝨 / 狗虱 (káu-sat) for specifically "dog fleas[?] or dog louse[?]", or in general like, 蝨母 / 虱母 (sat-bú) for "louse" (Tagalog kuto), like my parents would say 蝨母 káu sat-bú, with the final -t in sat almost like a glottal stop. I'm not sure if my family understands the difference between fleas and louse that much in terms of Hokkien and Tagalog, besides being undesireable tiny organisms hidden in fur or hair or something similar. For 虼蚤 (ka-cháu), can't remember but I don't usually hear it used in my family at least, which perhaps I specifically asked my parents if they understood what it means, which they probably did if I ended up putting it here. probably as the more proper term for "fleas" specifically, without confusing "louse".
