Nanjing pronunciation
[edit]I was under the impression that this was pronounced /kiŋ/ in Nanjing, hence the court dialect names Peking and Nanking.--Prisencolin (talk) 08:40, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

- @Prisencolin Yes, this was pronounced /kiŋ/ in Nanjing, hence the names Peking and Nanking. However, this module records the modern pronunciations of this character in various locations, hence it is /t͡ɕiŋ/ here. The palatalisation change /ki/ → /t͡ɕi/ invalid IPA characters (/→/) happened during the Ming–Qing Dynasties.
- (@Suzukaze-c thanks for the ping. I didn't receive the notification though - I seem to have problems with many of your pings...) Wyang (talk) 07:57, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
- Ok I see, thanks for clearing this up. I only asked because I read that in some Mandarin areas (i.e. Wuhan, Lower Yangtze) that palatalization didn't fully happen. --Prisencolin (talk) 21:55, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
