Words without traditional vowels
[edit]@Erutuon I added a Slovak example with a syllabic /r̩/ in it, and the module fails on that, it gives -1 as the answer. I think that means your current approach needs some rethinking. —CodeCat 22:10, 22 October 2016 (UTC)
- @CodeCat Yep. That's something I haven't gotten to yet. Recognizing the syllabic diacritic is also needed for English. — Eru·tuon 22:13, 22 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Erutuon It looks like I have it working. —CodeCat 23:34, 22 October 2016 (UTC)
- @CodeCat Wow, that is a great improvement over the previous function. — Eru·tuon 23:50, 22 October 2016 (UTC)

Αὖλος syllables
[edit]@CodeCat, Can you figure out what's going on with Αὖλος (Aûlos) which gets syllabified as both 2 & 3 syllables by this module? It uses mod:IPA on the back end, so I don't know what is causing the problem. —JohnC5 19:24, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
Ping @Erutuon as well. —JohnC5 19:25, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
- @JohnC5 It's because of the acute in the sequence vowel, acute, tie, vowel in the Attic pronunciation. I'll see what I can do to fix that. — Eru·tuon 19:34, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
- Oops, actually there's an a with acute. — Eru·tuon 19:39, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
- Fixed! I switched Module:grc-pronunciation to using the acute tone mark, and allowed a vowel to be followed by one tone mark. — Eru·tuon 19:53, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks! —JohnC5 20:08, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
Tone mark problems
[edit]The tone marks on izkrcanje seem to be causing an error in syllable parsing. @Erutuon, CodeCat —JohnC5 17:30, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
- Are you sure it's not the unmarked syllabic r? —CodeCat 17:40, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
- @CodeCat: Now it's only 2 syllables instead of 4. —JohnC5 17:50, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
- Ok then yeah, I'd say that's broken. :P —CodeCat 17:51, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

- I think you're right that it's the tone marks. A bunch of letters with diacritics will have to be added to the list of vowels. — Eru·tuon 20:12, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
- @Erutuon: When you say "will have to be", who is meant to do this? —JohnC5 20:14, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
- @JohnC5: There, I handled the problem by decomposing instead. Compiling a list of vowel letters with tonal diacritics would have been too much work. — Eru·tuon 20:34, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
- @Erutuon: Cool beans. —JohnC5 20:35, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

- Erutuon, you can use the functions to convert to NFD, which will decompose any letters with diacritics. That might make them easier to deal with. —CodeCat 20:17, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
- I just thought of that, and that would be easier than listing all vowel letters with tonal diacritics. — Eru·tuon 20:30, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

- @Erutuon: And how about Κάδμος (Kádmos)? I know it's using the old
{{grc-ipa-rows}}
, and I'm slowly trying to convert them over, but it should be able to handle this as well. —JohnC5 20:44, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
