Alternate spelling

[edit]

@AryamanA, @Gotitbro Any thoughts about this edit I made? I'm unsure about my edit. I came across some edits (this, this) by @Gotitbro where they changed the spelling, instead of having both. I think having both might be ok. Thoughts? Siddhant (talk) 15:46, 26 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

The proper orthography is to have the complete chandrabindu instead of its concatenated form but I don't see any problem in adding alt spellings in addition to that as well. Gotitbro (talk) 15:52, 26 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your reply. On second thoughts, the chandrabindu is present in all ordinals, so maybe too many changes, for no real benefit. This is not something like, say for example, the with-nuqta vs nuqtaless forms, which actually differ in their pronunciations. I think I'll revert my change, and also add a note at the top of the page about not adding the simplified (concatenated form) spelling. Siddhant (talk) 16:23, 26 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Btw, do we have documentation/usage notes/appendix/etc. saying that the chandrabindu is the "proper" form? Or, any general article to learn about Hindi orthography, that which covers such kinda details? Siddhant (talk) 16:25, 26 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
