central Germany, specifically
1. (ethnology, linguistics) the central parts of Germany from north to south, (especially) those areas where Central German dialects have traditionally been spoken
2. (history, politics) the central parts of Germany from west to east, (especially 1945-90) the GDR seen as the middle part of Germany in its pre-WWII borders
3. (broadcasting) the broadcasting area of the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk, that is, the federal states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia
