Borrowed from Byzantine Greek ἀμερμουμνῆς (amermoumnês), from Arabic أَمِير الْمُؤْمِنِين (ʔamīr al-muʔminīn, literally commander of the believers), from أَمِير (ʔamīr, prince; commander) + مُؤْمِن (muʔmin, believer).
