From Ancient Greek μέσος (meso, “middle”) + ὅπλα ( hopla, often in the plural: instruments of war: “arms”, “armour”, “weaplon”) + ὀδούς  (odous, “teeth”), and may be translated as 'armed with a tooth in the centre of the jaw'.
