[edit]Is this working as intended? I think part the message shoul look like this:
* | | | Did you mean NAMESPACE:? }} * | | | Did you mean NAMESPACE:? }} <br /><br />
instead of:
* *<br /><br />

whoops
[edit]I was clicking though edits, trying to see what other have tried...and miss-clicked on rollback (when I got to the last one.) D'oh! Sorry. --Connel MacKenzie T C 05:33, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
div box?
[edit]I like having the courier text to make the difference more dramatic, and the box around it highlights it well. But it doesn't want to work for the first one. (Some crazy compaction logic, no doubt, saying that a template has to be conjoined with the previous item or something.)
Anyway, if someone can devise a prettier floating-div-box-thinggy for this, please be bold. (That's why it is semi-protected. Hrm...considering the anon above, I think I'll unprotect it completely for a day or two.) --Connel MacKenzie T C 06:17, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
Works fine
[edit]Looks to be working fine now; compare: [1], [2] and [3]. Layout may perhaps need improvement. Also, would a link to Special:Allpages/FULLPAGENAME be useful? —Vildricianus | t | 08:03, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- Remark: looks like this isn't working yet. —Vildricianus | t | 08:05, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- Remark: well, it won't, unless the Namespaces get fixed. (Doh!) —Vildricianus | t | 08:06, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- Actually that's only a pseudonamespace, which is quite a different thing. Weren't we going to ask the devs to upgrade some of our pseudonamespaces to real ones? — Hippietrail 17:34, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- Remark: well, it won't, unless the Namespaces get fixed. (Doh!) —Vildricianus | t | 08:06, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure how that request fell throught the cracks, but yes, Ec said last year he'd get it done.
- I'd like to note that " WikiSaurus:Annoy " pasted into the search box and pressing [Go] also does not find WikiSaurus:annoy. So this hack works just as well as MediaWiki software itself? :-) --Connel MacKenzie T C 17:49, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- It may be that we still "need" redirects for WikiSaurus (i.e. from "Wikisaurus") in the short term. Once "Wikisaurus" becomes a namespace (and not a pseudo-namespace) this problem of course, goes away. Perhaps we should start a fresh BP vote for WS to become a real namespace? --Connel MacKenzie T C 04:23, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
- Absolutely! That'll be the first thing to do if we were to put up a decisive cleanup project for WikiSaurus. —Vildricianus | t | 12:00, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

namespaces
[edit]So our lovely hack was behaving strangely for the User talk: namespace. Connel thought it was due to the space, which was a good guess, so I tried NAMESPACEE which should have used underscores instead, but it didn't help.
So since we arguably don't want to be offering this correction for User pages or User talk pages or project namespace pages anyway, I slapped a test for namespace being empty around the whole thing, and got rid of all the internal namespace hackery, which simplified it considerably. All in all I think this is somewhat preferable, although it's a step in the wrong direction in terms of ever getting the Wikisaurus: namespace to work. —Scs 04:00, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
- The magic "#IF" has THEN and ELSE, right? Perhaps one section for NS:0, one section to skip NS:3 (User talk) and one section for everything else? --Connel MacKenzie T C 04:26, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
I think the bug is there for all _talk namespaces: [4]. —Vildricianus | t | 07:21, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Obvious fact, stupid comment. —Vildricianus | t | 12:00, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hang on; there's two separate issues here.
- Does the trick work for namespaces with spaces in them, and
- Do we want the trick to operate in namespaces other than main?
- We're agreed that we want to be caseful in the main namespace. But, in general, do we want to be caseful in the others? Do we want to be able to have User:Scs distinct from User:scs? Do we want to be able to have a Wiktionary:Beer parlour and a separate Wiktionary:beer parlour? If not, then there's no need to have the "Did you mean?" link appear for missing pages in those namespaces.
- If, on the other hand, we want to be fully caseful in the other namespaces, then we certainly want to be just as caseful for talk pages as for the pages they're talking about, and we want the "Did you mean?" links to work there too. We want to find and fix the bug that's causeing them not to work, not just arbitrarily not do it for those namespaces.
- (Me, I think we don't want to do it for those namespaces, and the reason we don't want to is because we don't want to, not because of that spacefulness bug, whatever it is.) —Scs 16:24, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
Newarticletext
[edit]The page Wiktionary:Project-Newarticletext needs similar updating, when we are content with this iteration. --Connel MacKenzie T C 16:18, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
Simpler did-you-mean test
[edit][I copied this comment from MediaWiki talk:Noarticletext. Perils of being caseful in the other namespaces... —Scs 16:27, 12 May 2006 (UTC)]
The did-you-mean code could be simplified a lot by abstracting some of the code to a template (or another MediaWiki page). It could be implemented as:

Where Template:did-you-mean would contain:
{{#ifeq:{}|{}||{}|{{NAMESPACE:{}|| *<big>Did you mean <strong class="did-you-mean">NAMESPACE:{}</strong>?</big>}}}}
(Also, IMO the notice would look nicer if the line with the search link wasn't indented.) --Ilmari Karonen 15:05, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you! I thought earlier that server-performance might take a hit. But who cares, right now, during this debugging phase? If no one objects (soon!) I'll implement this, in a templace common to both Noarticletext and Newarticletext,
alternate pages
. --Connel MacKenzie T C 04:17, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
- P.S. I really like your clever line-break <--
-->method as well. --Connel MacKenzie T C 04:18, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
Deletion Log
[edit]With the deletion log now shown below this notice, should the "If you created an article under this title previously, it may have been deleted. Check for Wiktionary:Project-Noarticletext in the deletion log. Alternately, check here." be removed or reworded. Conrad.Irwin 21:04, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Search Box
[edit]Is it possible that the search box could have the originally entered page's name in the box by default (i.e., some page would have some page in the search box)? I remember there previously being a link to search for the page, but it seems to have gone missing recently. 71.200.39.246 00:13, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- It's supposed to be possible, using the default= parameter — see the left-hand column ("Parameters") of mw:Extension:InputBox#Parameters — but it doesn't seem to work any more — see the right-hand column ("Example"). We're still specifying default= here, but it has no effect. This bug doesn't seem to have been reported; see <https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/buglist.cgi?product=MediaWiki+extensions;component=Inputbox;bug_status=NEW;bug_status=ASSIGNED;bug_status=REOPENED>. I guess that means we should report it … —RuakhTALK 14:18, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- I've noticed this in a few other places. It needs to be reported if that hasn't already happened. Conrad.Irwin 16:16, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- Working now. —RuakhTALK 16:15, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit]I think it would be helpful for an empty citations page to link to Wiktionary:Citations. The word "citations" appears twice:
Wiktionary does not yet have a citations page for <x>. * To start the citations page, type in the box below and click "Save page". Your changes will be visible immediately.
