div box?

I like having the courier text to make the difference more dramatic, and the box around it highlights it well. But it doesn't want to work for the first one. (Some crazy compaction logic, no doubt, saying that a template has to be conjoined with the previous item or something.)

Anyway, if someone can devise a prettier floating-div-box-thinggy for this, please be bold. (That's why it is semi-protected. Hrm...considering the anon above, I think I'll unprotect it completely for a day or two.) --Connel MacKenzie T C 06:17, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure how that request fell throught the cracks, but yes, Ec said last year he'd get it done.

I'd like to note that " WikiSaurus:Annoy " pasted into the search box and pressing [Go] also does not find WikiSaurus:annoy. So this hack works just as well as MediaWiki software itself?  :-) --Connel MacKenzie T C 17:49, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

• It may be that we still "need" redirects for WikiSaurus (i.e. from "Wikisaurus") in the short term. Once "Wikisaurus" becomes a namespace (and not a pseudo-namespace) this problem of course, goes away. namespaces

So our lovely hack was behaving strangely for the User talk: namespace. Connel thought it was due to the space, which was a good guess, so I tried {{NAMESPACEE}} which should have used underscores instead, but it didn't help.

So since we arguably don't want to be offering this correction for User pages or User talk pages or project namespace pages anyway, I slapped a test for namespace being empty around the whole thing, and got rid of all the internal namespace hackery, which simplified it considerably. All in all I think this is somewhat preferable, although it's a step in the wrong direction in terms of ever getting the Wikisaurus: namespace to work. —Scs 04:00, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Hang on; there's two separate issues here.

1. Does the trick work for namespaces with spaces in them, and
2. Do we want the trick to operate in namespaces other than main?

We're agreed that we want to be caseful in the main namespace. But, in general, do we want to be caseful in the others? Do we want to be able to have User:Scs distinct from User:scs? Do we want to be able to have a Wiktionary:Beer parlour and a separate Wiktionary:beer parlour? If not, then there's no need to have the "Did you mean?" link appear for missing pages in those namespaces.

If, on the other hand, we want to be fully caseful in the other namespaces, then we certainly want to be just as caseful for talk pages as for the pages they're talking about, and we want the "Did you mean?" links to work there too. We want to find and fix the bug that's causeing them not to work, not just arbitrarily not do it for those namespaces.

(Me, I think we don't want to do it for those namespaces, and the reason we don't want to is because we don't want to, not because of that spacefulness bug, whatever it is.) —Scs 16:24, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

The did-you-mean code could be simplified a lot by abstracting some of the code to a template (or another MediaWiki page). It could be implemented as:

Search Box

Is it possible that the search box could have the originally entered page's name in the box by default (i.e., some page would have some page in the search box)? I remember there previously being a link to search for the page, but it seems to have gone missing recently. 71.200.39.246 00:13, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

It's supposed to be possible, using the default= parameter — see the left-hand column ("Parameters") of [[mw:Extension:InputBox#Parameters]] — but it doesn't seem to work any more — see the right-hand column ("Example"). We're still specifying default= here, but it has no effect. This bug doesn't seem to have been reported; see <https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/buglist.cgi?product=MediaWiki+extensions;component=Inputbox;bug_status=NEW;bug_status=ASSIGNED;bug_status=REOPENED>. I think it would be helpful for an empty citations page to link to Wiktionary:Citations. The word "citations" appears twice:
