Markneukirchen
Appearance
German
[edit]Etymology
[edit]First mentioned as Newenkirchen around the year 1274. During the 14th century, the place gained a market turning the place name subsequently into Markt Neukirchen. The present spelling Markneukirchen, that is Mark without a t, was fixed in 1858 by royal decree from Dresden, so it would not be confused with other Neukirchens.
