[edit]From former Maariz, from local Late Latin Malarici, genitive of Malaricus, from a Suevic personal name (cf. Malaric), from a compound *Malanarīks, probably from Proto-Germanic *malaną (“to grind”) and *rīks (“king”).[1][2]
