Etymology
[edit]From an Algonquian name. Nora Thompson Dean suggested Unami mehëmalunèk (“place to dance”); Whritenour suggested the more plausible Munsee maamaalahneek (“striped stream”),[1] from maamaaleew (“to be striped”).[2]
