[edit]From Old Norse *Mernisvatn, from the older name *Mernir + vatn (“lake”). The first part is derived from the river name *Marna (whence also Måne), again derived from *Mǫrn.

- A lake in Vinje, Telemark, Norway. Two minor parts of its eastern shore are located in Tinn municipality.
