Etymology

First attested as lumme in 1326. Etymology uncertain. Potentially related to Old English *lumm (puddle, pool), dialectal English lum (deep pool in a riverbed), or Middle Dutch lomme (ice hole). Compare Lemiers, Lomme and Lommel.
