[edit]First attested as lumme in 1326. Etymology uncertain. Potentially related to Old English *lumm (“puddle, pool”), dialectal English lum (“deep pool in a riverbed”), or Middle Dutch lomme (“ice hole”). Compare Lemiers, Lomme and Lommel.
