[edit]First attested as Huis Lochtenburg in 1788-1804. Compound of either Middle Dutch logt (“air, sky”) or locht (“enclosed area, courtyard, vegetable garden”) and burg (“mansion”). Originally the name of a manor house. Compare Locht.
