[edit]First attested as lobedhe in 1222. Etymology uncertain. Perhaps derived from Proto-West Germanic *laub (“leaves”) or *laubijā (“roof, eave”) suffixed with the collectivising suffix *-iþi. Compare Loven and Loveren.
