Latvian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Via other European languages, ultimately a borrowing from some Semitic language, based on the Semitic stem لبن (l-b-n, “white; milk”), probably a reference to the snow-capped Mount Lebanon. The word itself is very old, being already found in sources from the 3rd millennium BCE (including the Epic of Gilgamesh).
