[edit]First attested as nederlanghbroech in 1337. Compound of Middle Dutch lanc (“long”) and broec (“marsh, marshland”). The toponym was initially prefixed with neder (“lower, downstream”). The element gradually disappeared, however, as the village outgrew Overlangbroek.
