Italian
[edit]Etymology
[edit](This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)Lampariello is the corrective form of Lambariello, that could represent *L’ambariello, the diminutive of L’amaro, “the unfortunate one” (from L. amarus, “bitter”) or La Mari < Adimari, composed of the Germanic elements for “noble” and “fame.” On the other hand, It. dialectal lampara from a hypothetical *lampadara from It. lampada, "lantern," refers to night fishing with a blinding light source. In this sense, Lampariello could signify the "little night fisherman."
