Läich
Appearance
Luxembourgish
[edit]Pronunciation
[edit]Etymology 1
[edit]Inherited from Old High German līh, from Proto-Germanic *līką. Cognate with German Leiche, Dutch lijk.
Noun
[edit]Läich f (plural Läichen)
Etymology 2
[edit]Borrowed from German Laich, from Middle High German leich. Formally adapted to etymology 1 because the German word is homophonous with Leiche (but for the final -e). If it had been inherited, the Luxembourgish form would be *Leech. Compare similarly Säit (“string”).
Noun
[edit]Läich m (uncountable)
