Finnish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]kuolema + järvi (“lake”). The initial component has (often in folk etymology) been considered to be kuolema (“death”) (after all, it was close to where Mikael Agricola died), but it is more likely from an obscured derivation, possibly from another language.
Pronunciation
[edit]- IPA(key): /ˈkuo̯lemɑˌjærʋi/, [ˈkuo̞̯le̞mɑ̝ˌjærʋi]
- Rhymes: -ærʋi
- Syllabification(key): Kuo‧le‧ma‧jär‧vi
Proper noun
[edit]Kuolemajärvi
- Pionerskoye (former municipality of Finland within territory ceded due to World War II, now in Russia)
