Kufow

  1. Obsolete form of Qufu.
    • 1979, Robert R. Newton, “Chinese Records of Solar Eclipses”, in The Moon's Acceleration and Its Physical Origins[1], volume 1, Johns Hopkins University Press, →ISBN, →LCCN, →OCLC, page 143:
Confucius was born, in either -550 or -549, in or near Kufow, which was the capital of Lu.*
*I use the spelling Kufow because it is the spelling used in the Times Atlas [1955]. The spellings Chu-fu and Chu-fou are also used in English writing. Webster's Geographical Dictionary, in the form that was published in 1972, says that known descendants of Confucius still live in Kufow.
