[edit]- (Gelderland): kronen (“crowned”) + burg (“mansion”). Attested as de Kroon in 1868. Compound of kroon (“crown”) with a later element burg (“mansion”). Named after a mansion located close to the current neighbourhood. The neighbourhood itself began construction in the early 1970s.
- (Noord-Holland): Attested as Kroonenburg in 1866. Named after a former estate, which may have been named in turn after a former castle near Loenen aan de Vecht.
