[edit]First attested as corvele in 1331. Etymology uncertain. Proposed derivations from Latin corbele (“type of wooden beam”), goor (“swamp”) and a compound of korf (“basket”) and lo (“light forest”) do not match well with the oldest attestations of the toponym.
