[edit]- (Gelderland) Attested as De Klarenbeek in 1830-1855. Compound of klaar (“clear, bright”) and beek (“brook, stream”). Originally a hydronym that was first applied by proximity to a neighbouring estate and then to the village.
- (Zeeland) Attested as 't hof Claerebeek around 1750. Compound of Clara (a personal name) and beek (“brook”). Named after a former mansion, which in turn was named after the wife of its owner.
