[edit]From Abenaki Ktaden, Ktaaden (“great mountain”), from kta-, gita- (“great”) (compare Penobscot kta- (“great”)) + aden (“mountain”) (whence also monadnock).[1][2] Cognate to Penobscot Ktàtən.
