Etymology

First attested as curie, que calthorne dicitur in 1209. Etymology uncertain. Potentially a compound of Proto-Germanic *kalwa (bald, barren) and *þurnu- (thorn, thorn bush). Compare Collendoorn and Kallenbroek.
