Etymology
[edit]Via German Low German from Middle Low German kuken, from Old Saxon *kiukīn, from Proto-West Germanic *kiukīn (“chicken”). Cognate with Dutch kuiken, English chicken. A related form is Middle High German kuchil, whence now obsolete Küchlein.
