[edit]Composed of kæna + garður. From Old Norse Kænugarðr, which is an adaptation of Old East Slavic *Kijan(ov)ŭ gor(o)dŭ / *Kyjevŭ gor(o)dŭ, literally “Kyi’s castle”.
