Etymology

[edit]

From Johanneberg Estate, named after an unknown person. It may derive from Johanna Printz, daughter of Georg Printz, who owned the estate in the 1770s. If so, the name is a compound of Johanna +‎ berg, literally Johanna Mountain, with an a→e vowel change. First attested in 1800 as Johannæberg.[1]

According to ISOF, it is unlikely that the name originates from Johan af Dittmer or Johannes Döparen (John the Baptist).[1]

Proper noun

[edit]

Johanneberg ? (genitive Johannebergs)

  1. A district in Gothenburg, Sweden.
