Probably borrowed from Old Belarusian Яге́ль / Яге́ла (Jahélʹ), from Gothic 𐌰𐌲𐌹𐍃 (agis) +‎ -𐌲𐌰𐌹𐌻 (-gail, diminutive suffix), and ultimately from Proto-Germanic *Agilaz. Compare Polish Jagiełło.
