Etymology
[edit]From Jehovah, the personal name of God in the Hebrew Scriptures; name adopted in 1931 and inspired by the Bible verse of Isaiah 43:10 "You are my witnesses."
Proper noun
[edit]- A monotheistic and nontrinitarian Restoration Christian denomination founded by Charles Taze Russell in 1879 as a small Bible study group. Originally known as International Bible Students or Bible Students.
