[edit]From the nearby river *Jesieł, *Jasieł (modern Jasiołka), from Proto-Slavic *(j)ěš- (whence jasny). The change from Jesieł/Jasieł -> Jasło was due to a reanalysis of the genitive Jasła.[1]
