J pen (plural J pens)

  1. (now chiefly historical) A kind of fountain pen with a broad, stubby nib, originally stamped with a "J".
    • 1897, Richard Marsh, The Beetle:
      The calligraphy was, like the paper, unusual, bold, decided, and, I should have guessed, produced by a J pen.
    • 1915, W. Somerset Maugham, chapter 12, in Of Human Bondage:
      [A] few days later, on his way to the football field, he went into a shop and bought a pennyworth of J pens.
